CBAM data for aluminium window, door and structure fabricators

Fabricators turn profiles into windows, doors and facade systems. Under CBAM, almost your whole figure comes from the extruder who supplied the profiles.

Aluminium windows, doors, frames and structures (CN 7610) are CBAM goods. A fabricator's own direct emissions are small, mainly from coating ovens. Most of the figure comes from the extruded profiles you buy, so ask your extruder for its CBAM data.

Yes. Aluminium structures and parts of structures, including doors, windows and their frames and thresholds, fall under CN heading 7610, which is within CBAM's aluminium sector.

Always confirm the exact code your buyer declares your goods under. Scope is set by CN code, not by how the product is described.

What counts toward your figure

Aluminium goods are on the CBAM list where only direct emissions count in the definitive period. Electricity used in your plant isn't part of the CBAM figure, even if the template asks you to report it.

Direct emissions at a typical fabrication plant come from:

  • Gas-fired powder-coating curing ovens
  • Fuel used in anodising or pre-treatment heating
  • Any fuel-fired thermal-break or heat treatment

Your precursors: usually the biggest number

The extruded profiles you buy (CN 7604) are CBAM goods, and their embedded emissions come with them. That usually makes up nearly all of your figure. Components that aren't CBAM goods, such as glass, seals and hardware, aren't precursors. Ask your extruder for CBAM data per tonne of profile, or the default value for its country applies.

What your buyer will ask for

  1. Embedded emissions per tonne for each 7610 product
  2. Profile suppliers, quantities and countries of origin
  3. Your own fuel-related emissions
  4. Whether your extruder's data is verified

Documents to gather

  • Profile purchase invoices with extruder name and country
  • Fuel invoices for coating and pre-treatment
  • Production records by product
  • Yield and offcut records

Common mistakes

  • Assuming finished windows and doors are outside CBAM
  • Leaving out the extruder's embedded emissions
  • Counting non-aluminium components as precursors
  • Ignoring offcuts when working out profile tonnes per finished tonne
